Jacques KOLLY

I was 6 years old, we lived in a village in eastern France. One day, an uncle came to see us and played a piece by Johann Sebastian Bach on our old piano.
I was deeply touched and felt an irresistible need to be able one day to play that heavenly music.

Then, most of the time, I was trying to play the musics that were running in my head from my imagination and my memory.

Some years later, I used to play in a band with an electronic organ on Saturday nights. And on Sunday mornings, I used to play the pipe organ to accompany the choir in the church.

Finally, I started the long practice of piano with scales and technical exercices.
J.S. Bach and Chopin have been my favorite composers who influenced my music.

Here are some of my first compositions.
I made Nostalgia, at a time when I felt a deep, indefinable nostalgia.

I was also inspired by two different organists when playing the electronic organ : Keith Emerson and Rhoda Scott.

In the late 80ies, I discovered MIDI sequencing and sampling that enabled me to add more instruments to my piano parts.

Composing with these new tools was a very exciting experience. And for long years, it was a series of ups and downs, with times of fruitful inspiration, followed by blank periods.

As you can see from my titles, I was not so inspired to name my pieces. To me, instrumental music is just about musical feeling.

For example, I am more sensitive to J.S. Bach's music than to words.
